On a contract lift the provider plans and supervises the operation and carries the duty holder responsibility. On crane hire the client does. Most commercial plant replacement should be a contract lift.
The crane itself can often be arranged quickly; the permits cannot. Where a road closure or parking suspension is needed, allow several weeks.
Lifting over occupied areas is avoided wherever the geometry allows. Where it cannot be, the lift plan defines exclusion zones and the timing is set so the area beneath is empty.
